Second Chef – Luxury Care Home, Chichester 
Salary: £16.42 per hour | Hours: 40 per week (4 days)

Our client is a modern, luxurious care home based in West Sussex and part of an award-winning care group, renowned for delivering exceptional standards of care and hospitality.

The Role
We are seeking an exceptional 2nd Chef to join a talented and passionate kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals that enhance residents’ daily lives.

In addition to catering for residents, you will also support the delivery of special events and private dining experiences—giving you the chance to showcase your creativity and flair through a variety of menus.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will contribute to menu development and help ensure every meal is a fine dining experience, prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
  • Assist in planning and delivering creative, seasonal menus
  • Ensure meals meet all nutritional, dietary, and IDDSI requirements
  • Assist with ordering, stock control, and kitchen organisation
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and compliance
  • Contribute to events and special dining experiences
  • Prepare fresh meals and baked goods, including daily pastry items
  • Step up to lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence

Requirements
  • Previous experience as a chef in a care home, including knowledge of IDDSI
  • Experience at Senior Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or 2nd Chef level
  • Pastry and baking experience (daily baking required)
  • Passion for high-quality food and excellent service
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute creative ideas
  • Excellent knowledge of food preparation, presentation, and service
  • Positive, proactive, and adaptable approach
Preferred Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in Catering/Culinary Arts
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3
