- 37 hours per week
- 39 weeks per year (term time)
- Shifts: 08:00–16:00 or 11:00–19:00 (predominantly day shifts)
- Monday to Friday with one weekend worked per half term
Reporting to the Catering Manager, the Head Chef will have full responsibility for leading the kitchen and overseeing a large-scale catering operation. The role involves delivering high-quality, nutritious food for a substantial daytime population, a smaller boarding provision, and a growing internal hospitality offer.
This is a hands-on leadership position, requiring strong organisational skills, creativity, and the ability to manage a sizeable kitchen brigade while maintaining exceptional standards.
The Ideal Candidate
- Current Head Chef or experienced Senior Sous Chef ready to step up
- Proven background in high-volume catering (ideally 2,000+ meals per day)
- Experience managing and developing large kitchen teams (15–20 staff)
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a positive, motivational approach
- Excellent knowledge of HACCP, food safety, and health & safety
- Sound financial awareness, including menu costing, budgeting, and waste control
- Highly organised, calm under pressure, and passionate about fresh, quality food
- An empathetic individual with a genuine interest in catering for young people
