The Role
The Chef will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious, high-quality meals from fresh ingredients, ensuring residents’ dietary, cultural, and medical needs are met. This role plays a key part in delivering person-centred care through food.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook fresh meals from raw ingredients in line with set menus
- Deliver traditional English cuisine using seasonal rotating menus
- Cater for special diets, modified food textures, and individual requirements
- Prepare desserts, cakes, and pastries as required
- Maintain excellent standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and safety
- Work collaboratively with kitchen assistants and the wider care team
- Support catering for special occasions and themed events
- Ensure correct food storage, labelling, and stock rotation
- Comply with health & safety, infection control, and HACCP requirements
- 36 hours per week
- Daytimes
- Every other weekend off
- Set rota - 2 week rota shift pattern
Essential:
- Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Cook or Chef
- Proven experience working in a professional kitchen
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene
- Experience preparing meals from scratch from raw ingredients
- Experience in a care or nursing home environment
- Experience with special diets and modified food consistencies
- Food Hygiene Certificate (essential)
- Enhanced DBS check (required – can be completed upon offer)
